IRS 2019 Q1: Dainik Jagran retains lead, Dainik Bhaskar becomes No. 2, ToI remains No. 1 English daily

Amar Ujala slipped to No. 3, MRUC has not released the readership of Hindustan Times and Hindi Hindustan

The Media Research Users Council (MRUC) has released the Indian Readership Survey 9IRS) for the first quarter of 2019 after a hiatus of two years.

The readership numbers of HT Media’s English daily Hindustan Times and Hindi daily Hindustan are not included in the data released today owing to some issues between the publisher and MRUC.

MRUC said that once the readership of HT Media publications are updated in a week, the rankings will change.

According to IRS 2019 Q1, Dainik Jagran retained the most read newspaper rank with 7,36,73,000 of total readership (TR) compared with 7,03,77,000 of TR in IRS 2017.

Dainik Bhaskar has become second largest read daily by overtaking Amar Ujala and has grown to a TR of 5,14,05,000 in IRS 2019 Q1 over 4,51,05,000 of TR in IRS 2017.

At No. 3, Amar Ujala has a total readership of 4,76,45,000 in IRS 2019 Q1, up from 4,60,94,000 of TR in IRS 2017.Daily Thanthi grew to a TR of 2,40,54,000 in the current survey against 2,31,49,000 in IRS 2017.

Lokmat stood at No. 5 with 1,96,91,000 of  TR in IRS 2019 Q1 as compared to 1,80,66,000 in the previous survey.

Rajasthan Patrika at No. 6 grew to 1,80,36,000 of total readership in IRS 2019 Q1 from 1,63,26,000 of TR in the previous survey.

Malayalam Daily Malayala Manorama has a total readership of 1,74,77,000 in the current survey, up from 1,59,99,000 of TR in IRS 2017.

Telugu daily Eenadu witnessed drop in its total readership and stood at No. 8 with a TR of 1,56,73,000 in IRS 2019 Q1. The daily had a TR of 1,58,48,000 in the previous survey.

Among English dailies, The Times of India retained the numero uno position with a total readership of 1,52,36,000 in IRS 2019 Q1 as compared with 1,30,45,000 of TR in IRS 2017. TOI was at No. 9 among all dailies.

Prabhat Khabar stood at No. 10 with a TR of 1,41,02,000 in the current survey as compared with 1,34,92,000 of TR in IRS 2017.
