IRS 2019 Q2: Hindustan retains leadership in Bihar

The latest entrant in Bihar, Dainik Bhaskar has added maximum readers both in terms of average issue readership and total readership in the second quarter results of Indian Readership Survey 2019. There was no change in the pecking order in the current survey.

Hindi daily Hindustan despite losing about 8% readers is leading the Bihar market with an AIR of 47,80,000 in IRS 2019 Q2, compared with 51,85,000 in the previous quarter. The daily recorded a TR of 1,59,83,000, down 3.6% from 1,65,85,000 in Q1.

Dainik Jagran slightly improved its AIR numbers and strengthened its No. 2 position. It recorded an AIR of 34,48,000 in IRS 2019 Q2, up 1.1% from 34,10,000 the previous quarter. The total readership of the daily stood at 1,33,58,000, down 1.7% from 1,35,88,000 in Q1.

There was a steep decline in the AIR and TR of No. 3 daily Prabhat Khabar in the current survey. The daily recorded an AIR of 18,41,000, down 8% from 20,01,000 in the previous quarter. It had a total readership of 79,56,000, down 9.8% from 88,20,000 in Q1.

Dainik Bhaskar registered significant growth in its AIR and TR. It recorded an AIR of 16,48,000 in IRS 2019 Q2, up 10% from 15,04,000 in the previous quarter. The total readership of Dainik Bhaskar grew by more than 18% and reached at a TR of 58,77,000, compared with 49,70,000 in the previous quarter.
