How brands are drooling over ‘bananas’ with moment marketing campaigns

Luxury hotel JW Marriott would have never imagined the negative publicity it attracted recently over just two bananas. Actor Rahul Bose last week had shared a video via his Twitter and Instagram handles, sharing how the Chandigarh hotel had charged him Rs 442.50 for a pair of bananas, including GST (which is not applicable on fresh fruits and vegetables).

Bose’s viral video, which garnered more than 24,000 likes and more than a million eyeballs, prompted brands across categories to take a dig at the hotel’s services.

Not just other hospitality players, but e-commerce platforms and multiple brands came up with quirky ad campaigns and posters on social media, highlighting how their services of Rs 442.50 can serve customers better! Oyo, The Park Chain hotels, Amazon, Pizza Hut, Nature’s Basket among others surged the moment marketing with their spoofy ads around the episode with #RahulBoseMoment. News brands also joined the bandwagon with Tez taking a dig on Republic Bharat with its quirky communication.
