Chief digital officers wary of regulatory issues and insufficient employee skills

Representatives from India’s digital transformation industry came together under one roof to discuss the road ahead in taking ‘Digital At Scale’ at Chief Digital Officer’s Summit 2.0 organized by IAMAI and DX50 team on Wednesday. DX50 is the Think Tank forum for Chief Digital Officers in India with the sole purpose of advising and guiding ‘traditional’ or legacy companies on digital transformation.

Sarajit Jha, Chief Business Transformation Officer, Tata Steel, and a member of the IAMAI’s DX50 team in his inaugural address shared his ‘3S Mantra’ wherein he highlighted how Sweat (effort), Sharpness (in things we do) and Standard ( that needs to be maintained) to set the perfect tone for the Summit.

Deon Newman, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Strategy, IBM Asia Pacific, in his welcome address highlighted that in a research conducted among chief digital officers, 68% raised concerns on regulatory issues and 47% highlighted the issue of insufficient employee skills. He also shared how every company can use data to be disruptors in their respective market and also continue to create dominance.

Avnish Sabharwal, MD, Accenture Ventures, while moderating a session on innovating with Startups highlighted that more than 60% of the revenue are generated from digital which accounts to USD 40 billion.

Uma Talreja, CMO, Shoppers Stop, in a panel discussion with Abhinav Chamoli, Head – Advisory Partnership, Adobe, stated “It’s important to choose what you want to present to the customers, measure it well and provide the wow experience”. 

The debate session “Incubate vs. Garage: the better way to scale start-ups?” saw an active participation of the delegates where a majority of the audience sided for team incubate represented by Manish Gupta, CDO, Mastercard and Vivek Vishnu, Author, Transformation Strategy for the Digital CIO stating that’s the way forward against team garage represented by Devendra Parulekar, Founder, Saffron Stays and Wriju Ray, Chief Business Officer, IDfy.

Representatives from India’s digital transformation industry participated at the one-day learning and networking gathering along with experts to deliberate on the way forward for the industry. The conference featured leading players of the digital transformation industry, some of the distinguished speakers who are participating in this year’s conference are, Kavinder Singh, MD & CEO, Mahindra Holidays, Nitin Chugh, Country Head, HDFC Bank, Aneesh Chaudhry, CDO, HUL, Manish Gupta, CDO, Mastercard, Nipun Mehrotra, CDO, IBM India/South Asia, among others.
