One Screen Short Film Festival opens global call for entries

Part of The One Club for Creativity, it is the seventh year of the festival. Last year’s festival received double the number of entries compared to 2016, with work submitted from 45 countries

The One Screen Short Film Festival has opened the global call for entries for its seventh annual programme. It is a premier short film festival that celebrates and awards filmmakers from both commercial advertising and film industries.

The festival focuses on all forms and aspects of short films – narrative fiction, comedy, passion projects, commercials, branded content, music videos, spec work, animation, sound, movie poster design, title sequences, etc. – and celebrates and award filmmakers working in both the film and ad industries with no limitation and total artistic freedom, all on one screen.

One Screen is part of The One Club for Creativity (http://www.oneclub.org), the global non-profit organisation celebrating creative excellence in advertising and design.

“In just its seventh year, One Screen now has the drawing power to attract Oscar winners as both entrants and judges from around the world. It's now a home for the passion projects of accomplished filmmakers, as well as a proving ground for promising young talent,” said Jonathan Jirjis, Executive Producer, One Screen.

Entries can be submitted at http://www.onescreen.org/. Early submission deadline to qualify for discounted entry fees is October 31, 2018 ($150) and November 8 ($175), with a final deadline November 20 ($200). Entries were judged by a 40-person jury of leading film directors, producers, ad agency creatives and heads of production companies, to be announced shortly. Winners will be unveiled at the One Screen Short Film Festival awards ceremony and screening in New York in February 2019.

Some additions and changes have been made to One Screen categories this year. Due to the high number of submissions from outside the US, One Screen has established a separate “Foreign Film” category. Categories for “60 Second Films”, “Sound Design/Original Score” and “Art Direction/Production Design” are new this year. “Narrative” has been split into separate categories for “Fiction” and “Comedy”.

Last year’s festival received double the number of entries compared to 2016, with work submitted from 45 countries. Last year’s awards represented a coming full circle of sorts, as 2017 One Screen Best in Show went to “The Escape”, the latest BMW Films work by Geisel Productions and Anonymous Content.

The One Club’s One Show was the first ad industry awards competition to recognise original branded content, creating the separate new category of Branded Entertainment in 2003 to accommodate the original launch of BMW Films.

Past One Screen winners include Oscar-winning director Laurent Witz and Martín Rosete, director of award-winning feature film “Money”, whose producer first connected with him at the One Screen awards ceremony in 2014.
