Stage being decked up for 30th AdAsia in Bali

The 30th edition of AdAsia, an Asian advertising festival, will be held at Bali between November 8 and 10, 2017. Organised by the Asian Federation of Advertising Association (AFAA), this is the 59th year of the festival. Preparations are in full swing as the congregation of about 1,500 people from the advertising fraternity will all be in Bali during the time.

The AdAsia Exposition event held in Mumbai on August 10 showcased the highlights of the events, making an attempt at inviting the Indian advertising industry to attend the forum.

The forum aims to empower learning, encourage networking, and spotlight the case studies and future goals of advertising and marketing professionals, all set against the backdrop of Bali’s white beaches and lush landscape.

India plays a vital role in the advertising landscape of Asia and hence become a major contributor in the AdAsia too. Harris Thajeb, Chairman of Advertising Agencies Association of Indonesia (P3I), added, “The delegate count from India has been very promising every year. About 100 delegates always attend the festival from India. This year, the expectation is 200. Together, we can learn more about Asia’s latest innovations and future directions. We hope to gain support from everyone involved.”

For any advertisers testing the waters of emerging locations, Indonesia should be near the top of your list. It boasts an astoundingly large Facebook population and is the most rapid-developing country for internet use – with 51 per cent growth YoY. Indonesia is also home to 8,000 active brands and 400 advertising companies, with ecommerce spend reaching US$5.65 billion in 2016, ad spend set to reach US$3.56 billion by 2020, and a widening middle class.

By hosting ad agencies, brands, and media alike, the AdAsia Bali event acts as a unique touch point for industry players. The enlightening three days has a line-up of high calibre speakers, including Charles Adler, co-founder of Kickstarter; Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of iflix Malaysia; Martin Lindstrom, author of the best-selling book Buyology; David Coulthard, F1 Grand Prix winner; Piotr Jakubowski, CMO of GO-JEK Indonesia; and Shelina Janmohamed, Vice-President of Ogilvy Noor. To close the conference, Kofi Annan, former UN secretary general and Nobel Peace Prize recipient will give an address on how businesses can help to lead positive change.

Experts will delve into pressing subjects like technological breakthroughs, the importance of creative enterprising, digital implementation and effective marketing – all with a distinct emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region under the event’s overarching theme, “Globalisation – Advancing New Possibilities”. Beyond industry-focused content, AdAsia 2017 will also celebrate Indonesia’s cultural diversity and examine its immense contributions to the global economy.

Maya Watono, Head of International Affairs of the P3I, said of the upcoming event, “Through AdAsia, we can promote Indonesia to the international world, including the brilliant progress of our advertising industry.”

Previously held in Hanoi in 2013 and Taipei in 2015, AdAsia makes a welcome return to Indonesia in 2017, marking the first time since 1995 the country has played host. Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) is set to serve as the venue.
