IBF may discontinue its channels in Nepal if Clean Feed Policy continues

The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) has expressed deep concern over the implementation of the Clean Feed Policy by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Government of Nepal.

Considering the sentiments of the broadcasters and the unviable business proposition that the implementation of the policy poses, IBF Secretary General Girish Srivastava did not deny the possibility of even discontinuation of channels, which may lead to rampant piracy all over Nepal in the days to come.

Srivastava said that given the miniscule size and average revenue per user (ARPU), spending exorbitant amount in creating clean feed does not make any sense from a business perspective.

“Implementation of the Clean Feed Policy would definitely prove counter-productive to the Government of Nepal’s laudable initiative for implementation of digitisation of distribution networks in the country,” he said.

The IBF has appealed to the Government of Nepal to de-notify its decision with immediate effect to prevent expected loss of revenue and employment in the country.

The IBF had earlier too tried to meet officials concerned of the Nepal Government to dissuade them from going ahead with the policy.
