Malayala Manorama and Dainik Jagran won big at the Asian Media Awards of WAN IFRA held on April 19 at Kuala Lumpur. While Malayala Manorama won five awards in four categories, Dainik Jagran bagged three awards in two categories.
Malayala Manorama won two awards in the Best News Photography for the news stories -- ‘Bull by the horns’ and ‘Nepal’s illegal kidney selling village’. The publication also won an award for its magazine The Week’s cover design for the issue Modi’s out-dated army, under the category Best Magazine Cover Design.
The fourth award for the publication came in the Best Sport Photography category, for the story ‘Mud soak wonder’, and the fifth award was for the campaign ‘Ardrakeralam’ (Compassionate Kerala) under the Best Community Service category.
Dainik Jagran shone at the marketing awards. The publication grabbed two metals in the category Best Newspaper Marketing for the campaigns ‘A newspaper on a mission to restore a city's pride’ and ‘Crowdsourcing imagination to create the newspaper for the future by the future’. The publication also grabbed a metal in the Best Community Service category for the campaign ‘No more going to the jungle’.
India Today Group too grabbed a metal for the Best Magazine Cover Design for its cover story titled ‘Pakistan’s new nuke threat’. Also, Kasturi and Sons, the owning company of The Hindu, won a metal for the photograph ‘Geremew & Jepchirchir are Champion’ under the Best Sport Photography category.
Dainik Jagran recently won nine metals at the Abby’s awards held earlier this year. On the WAN IFRA win, Basant Rathore, Senior Vice-President, Strategy, Brand and Business Development, Jagran Prakashan said, “It’s encouraging to see our team creating such innovative ideas consistently.
