India bags 10 Pencils on final day of judging at D&AD

India remains the ninth most awarded country with a total tally of 16 Pencils

India bags 10 Pencils on final day of judging at D&AD

After bagging six Pencils on day one, India won 10 Pencils on the final day of judging at D&AD 2017. The 55th D&AD judging week came to a close on April 26, 2017.

The winners, though, will have to wait until the awards ceremony at Troxy, London, today (April 27) to see what kind of Pencil – Wood, Graphite, Yellow or Black -- they’ve won.

556 Pencils were awarded on the final day and 733 Pencils have been awarded in total, decided by juries consisting of over 200 of the world’s top creatives. India was the ninth most awarded country.

BBDO India won three Pencils for ‘Dads #ShareTheLoad’ campaign done for P&G India’s Ariel Matic on the final day of judging. The agency won the award across three categories on day two – Brand Experience and Environment under Branding, Earned Media/Large Business and Integrated/Established campaigns under Integrated and Collaborative.

Ogilvy & Mather India bagged two more Pencils on day two. One Pencil for ITC’s Savlon Healthy Hands in Innovative Product Design under Product Design and the other for Philips LED Storm – Cycle campaign for Philips India in the Posters under Graphic Design category.

Taproot Dentsu won two Pencils for Adidas. One was for Adidas Odds campaign in Direct Product and Service under Direct category and the second Pencil for Adidas – Tale of Two in Writing for Film Advertising under Writing for Advertising.

McCann World Group, Mumbai, bagged a Pencil for The Dancing Letters campaign for Maharashtra Dyslexia Association in Children’s and Young Adult Books under Book Design.

Wieden+Kennedy, Delhi, won a Pencil for Nike Da Da Ding in Use of Music for Film Advertising under Film Advertising Crafts.

Lastly, Leo Burnett India won a Pencil for The Nation’s Bike in Earned Media/Large Business under Integrated and Collaborative.

India bagged six Pencils on the first day of D&AD judging.

Top ranking countries by number of Pencils won are:

United States: 182 Pencils

United Kingdom: 164 Pencils

Australia: 54 Pencils

France and Germany: 30 Pencils

Japan: 29 Pencils

Singapore: 21 Pencils

Canada: 20 Pencils

Sweden: 17 Pencils

India: 16 Pencils

The top ranking agencies by number of Pencils won are:

Dentsu: 19 Pencils

adam&eveDDB and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne: 13 Pencils

Droga5: 12 Pencils

BBDO New York and TBWA\Media Arts Lab: 11 Pencils

All 733 Pencils will appear in the 55th D&AD Annual published later this year. There are no quotas for awards at D&AD. The number of awarded entries fluctuates year to year. Some years, no Black Pencils are awarded: the record currently stands at seven. Traditionally the toughest of the awards shows, the judging process is rigorous, with the juries only selecting work they believe is truly exceptional.
