In the first data released by BARC India in 2017, for Week 52, the last week of 2016 (December 24 – 30), Colors has come back to the top spot, replacing Star Plus in the combined Urban+Rural markets. To make it a New Year bonanza for Viacom 18, Colors' sister channel, Rishtey, an FTA channel, grabbed the third spot in U+R.

Colors has gained on the back of its shows Naagin Season 2, the leader in (Urban and U+R) and Sasural Simar Ka in Urban, while Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and Udaan too grabbed eyeballs.

The free to air (FTA) channels gained a lot of viewership during the last week of the year, be it Rishtey or Sony Pal or Zee Anmol. All these channels improved their rankings even in the combined U+R markets.

Top Channels in U+R markets

Colors regained the top position with 668.810 million Impressions, followed by Star Plus at No. 2 with 627.386 million Impressions. Rishtey climbed up to grab the No. 3 spot by recording 455.490 million Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 4 with 432.530 million Impressions followed by Sony Pal, the FTA channel from Sony Pictures Networks India, which earned 421.672 million Impressions to climb one spot. Sony Entertainment Television slipped to No. 6 with 417.883 million Impressions. Zee Anmol, the FTA from ZEEL, also gained numbers to rank No. 7 with 377.088 million Impressions. Sony SAB, the second rung GEC of SPN, got the 8th spot by garnering 366.203 million Impressions, while Life OK slipped two spots to No. 9 with 358.749 million Impressions. Staying put at its No. 10 was Star Utsav with 354.066 million Impressions.

Top Programmes in U+R markets

Colors' Naagin Season 2 topped the list with 14.147 million Impressions. Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya climbed to No. 2 with 10.919 million Impressions, while Naagin on Rishtey stood at No. 3 with a marginal gap, garnering a total of 10.439 million Impressions. Colors also listed two of its other fiction properties in the top five list: Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki (9.834 million Impressions) and Sasural Simar Ka (9.258 million Impressions).

Top Channels in Urban markets

Colors retained its lead with 463.614 million Impressions, while Star Plus stood at No. 2 with 439.828 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed at No. 3, despite loss of numbers, clocking a total of 297.885 million Impressions, followed by its sibling Sony SAB which got 272.483 million Impressions. Zee TV with 255.178 million Impressions slipped to No. 5 spot. Life OK stayed at No. 6 with 238.070 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 7 with 145.476 million Impressions. Rishtey climbed to No. 8 with 117.325 million Impressions. Sony Pal and Zee Anmol stood at No. 9 and No. 10 with 115.602 million Impressions and 96.853 million Impressions, respectively.

Top Programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors' Naagin Season 2 came back to the top position with 9.076 million Impressions followed by the channel's other property Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki with 7.011 million Impressions. Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya which stood at No. 3 got 6.923 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television's The Kapil Sharma Show stood at No. 4 with 6.688 million Impressions. Colors' Udaan stood at No. 5 garnering 6.285 million Impressions.

Top Channels in Rural markets

Rishtey substantially gained and remained at the No. 1 position with 338.165 million Impressions. Sony Pal too gained eyeballs to remain at No. 2 with 306.070 million Impressions while Zee Anmol stayed at No. 3 with 280.235 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 4 with 259.220 million Impressions. Colors took the 5th position with 205.196 million Impressions followed by Star Plus with 187.558 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 7 with 177.352 million Impressions. Big Magic at No. 8 gained 120.717 million Impressions. Life OK at No. 9 and Sony Entertainment Television at No. 10 garnered 120.679 million Impressions and 119.999 million Impressions, respectively.

Top Programmes in Rural markets

As per BARC data, {HSM (Rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Rishtey's Naagin continued its lead as the most watched programme in rural markets by garnering 8.472 million Impressions. Sony Pal's Balveer stood at No. 2 with 5.081 million Impressions. Colors' Naagin Season 2 stood at No. 3 with 5.071 million Impressions. Sony Pal's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Zee Anmol's Jodha Akbar stood at No. 4 and No. 5 with 4.941 million Impressions and 4.261 million Impressions, respectively.
