GEC Watch: Star Plus leads the U+R and urban; Sony Pal tops the rural

In BARC Impressions for Week 17 of 2017 (April 22-28), the channel ranking remained the same including the leadership in the three markets. Sony Pal has become stronger than before, since two of its shows are the most watched shows in the rural markets.

Star Plus continued its leadership in U+R and urban markets and Sony Pal continued to rule rural markets. Zee TV’s singing talent hunt show - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs has also gained viewership marginally. Colors’ Naagin Season 2 has stepped back to rank No. 2 in the U+R markets, as Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya rose to No. 1.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 17 (April 22-28) of 2017 for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Star Plus remained on top garnering 640.266 million Impressions. Sony Pal stayed at No. 2 clocking 577.002 million Impressions. At No. 3, Colors garnered 554.259 million Impressions. At No. 4, Zee TV garnered 527.739 million Impressions while Rishtey stood at No. 5 with 509.513 million Impressions. ZEEL’s Zee Anmol followed with 435.289 million Impressions. At No. 7, Star Utsav climbed up with 428.772 million Impressions. Sony SAB, at No. 8, garnered 410.493 million Impressions. Life OK was at No. 9 with 368.892 million Impressions, followed by Sony Entertainment Television at No. 10 with 340.780 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (urban+rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 2+ Individuals}, Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya climbed to No. 1 with 11.153 million Impressions. Colors’ Naagin – Season 2 slipped to No. 2 with 10.399 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs climbed up to No. 4 with 9.027 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai at No. 4 garnered 8.760 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah got 7.259 million Impressions, at No. 5.

Star Plus retains its urban lead with 424.511 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors garnered 369.581 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 3 with 299.907 million Impressions while Sony SAB stood at No. 4 with 265.789 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television is at No. 5 with 242.549 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 228.046 million Impressions followed by Sony Pal which garnered 143.186 million Impressions. At No. 8, Rishtey garnered 130.921 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 9 with 109.906 million Impressions and &TV stood at No. 10 with 108.539 million Impressions.

Sony Pal’s Baalveer topped the rural programmes chart with 5.809 million Impressions and the channel’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood at No. 2 with 5.770 million Impressions and Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja took the third spot with 5.478 million Impressions. Rishtey’s Naagin - Season 2 followed with 5.029 million Impressions while Zee Anmol’s Tashan-e-Ishq was at No. 5 with 4.784 million Impressions.
