IPL 10 clocks 40 per cent more viewership than IPL 9

The viewership for the debut match of IPL 10 gathered as many as 28.3 million Impressions against 24.4 million Impressions clocked by the debut match of the ninth season

IPL 10 clocks 40 per cent more viewership than IPL 9

The 10th season of the Indian Premier League has garnered 40 per cent more viewership in the first three matches, compared to the first three matches of IPL nine. As per data provided by BARC India, the viewership of IPL in the two seasons was mapped on different TGs. As IPL 9 was measured on All India 4+ and IPL 10 is measured on All India 2+, the two sets of data aren't comparable. 

A cumulative reach of 185.7 million viewers was achieved by the first three matches of IPL 10, as per data provided by the channel. Sony Max is the official broadcaster for IPL, while the sister channel, Sony Six, also broadcasts matches.

The debut match of IPL 10 held on April 5 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed as many as 28.3 million Impressions, while the second match played between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants could attract 30.3 million Impressions, the highest among the three matches.

Interestingly, the IPL 9 match held between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants was also the highest viewed match (with 24.4 million Impressions) among the first three matches in 2016. Incidentally, this was the debut match of that season, held on April 9.

The third match of this year’s IPL (IPL 10) was played between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knightriders and grabbed 29.7 million Impressions. 

The average time spent per viewer stood at 46 minutes in IPL 9 for the first three matches. However, the average time spent in first three matches of IPL 10 was 1.10 hours.

Sony Max garnered 785.456 million Impressions in week 14, while Sony Six topped the Sports genre with 222.752 million Impressions. The match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants topped the most watched programmes’ list in movies genre with 19.960 million Impressions, while the one between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knightriders grabbed 19.246 million Impressions. On spot three was the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad versus Royal Challengers Bangalore that got 18.155 million Impressions. Extraa Innings, the analysis show of the channel was also listed in top five, at fourth spot with 11.960 million Impressions. 

Similarly, all matches were in the most-watched list on the sports genre too.
