GEC Watch: Star Plus widens lead by 149 mn in U+R markets

In Week 9 of BARC data, which is the second week of updated universe, Star Plus’ viewership continues to shoot up. Sony Pal leads Rural market

In the second consecutive week of updated universe of BARC India, Star Plus continued to gain maximum viewership with huge contribution from both Rural and Urban markets and widened the lead by 149 million Impressions over No. 2 GEC Colors. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai made it into top 5 shows list in combined market while it was second most watched show in Urban market.

Zee TV too added significant eyeballs this week on the back of its two shows Kumkum Bhagya and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs coming in the top-five chart. On the other hand, Sony Pal dethroned Rishtey from No. 1 position in Rural markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per the select BARC India data for Week 9 of 2017 for HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals, Star Plus strengthened its No. 1 position with 783.794 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors witnessed a slight drop in viewership at 634.917 million Impressions. Sony Pal rose to No. 3 with 563.212 million Impressions while Zee TV followed with 556.365 million Impressions. Rishtey slipped to No. 5 with 506.028 million Impressions. Zee Anmol stood at No. 6 with 491.557 million Impressions. At No. 7, Star Utsav garnered 456.187 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 8 with 431.506 million Impressions. Sony SAB stood at No. 9 with 423.175 million Impressions while Life OK was at No. 10 with 387.790 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (Urban+Rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 2+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin Season 2 retained its lead with 12.278 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stayed put at No. 2 with 12.219 million Impressions. Entering the top shows list, Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs stood at No. 3 with 10.776 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai stood at No. 4 with 10.540 million Impressions. At No. 5, Naagin Season 2 on Rishtey garnered 9.829 million Impressions.

Star Plus retained its leadership as it garnered 519.552 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors garnered 424.189 million Impressions. Zee TV climbed to No. 3 with 308.892 million Impressions while Sony Entertainment Television slipped to No. 4 with 295.428 million Impressions. Sony SAB stayed at No. 5 with 289.649 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 234.596 million Impressions followed by Sony Pal which garnered 156.381 million Impressions. At No. 8, &TV garnered 137.506 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 9 with 121.218 million Impressions and Zee Anmol took the tenth place with 106.590 million Impressions.

Star Utsav’s Saath Nibhaana Saathiya slipped to No. 3 with 6.065 million Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Afsar Bitiya stood at No. 4 with 5.719 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 5 with 5.513 million Impressions.
