Cricket ruled the Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) genre in Week 4 (January 21-27) of BARC India data. The one day international (ODI) series between India and England and the T20 matches both performed phenomenally well on the viewership charts on the state broadcaster DD National.

In both rural and the U+R combined markets, DD National's cricket matches have gained viewership and rated themselves in the top five shows. Other highlights included growth in viewership of The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony Entertainment Television and the exit of Sony SAB from the top ten shows in the U+R markets.

Rishtey led the rural flock while Star Plus remained the leader in the other two sets of data.

Top channels in U+R markets

Star Plus retained its No. 1 position with 660.084 million Impressions while Colors stayed at No. 2 with 640.585 million Impressions. Despite drop in numbers, Rishtey remained at No. 3 by recording 435.105 million Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 4 with 434.591 million Impressions followed by Sony Entertainment Television which gained more eyeballs on the back of its new launch Peshwa Bajirao and the strong performance of The Kapil Sharma Show. The channel came up from No. 7 to No. 5 by garnering 426.238 million Impressions.

 

Star Utsav slipped to No. 6 with 389.073 million Impressions. DD National also slipped to No. 7 with 385.299 million Impressions on the back of the ongoing ODI series between India vs England. Life OK climbed up by one position to come at No. 8 with 378.428 million Impressions. Zee Anmol stood at No. 9 with 357.567 million Impressions and Sony Pal trailed at No. 10 with 356.375 million Impressions.

Top programmes in U+R markets

The ODI series between India and England - L/T PAYTM-17 3 ODI IND/ENG has grabbed the No. 1 spot in the U+R markets with 12.241 million Impressions, dethroning Colors' Naagin Season 2 from the top spot. Naagin Season 2 slipped to No. 2 with 11.430 million Impressions, followed by the T20 series L/T Paytm-17 2 ODI IND/ENG which garnered 11.164 million Impressions. Rishtey's Naagin Season 2 slipped to the fourth position, garnering 10.810 million Impressions. Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 5 with 9.895 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Star Plus retained urban lead with 467.177 million Impressions followed by Colors with 443.414 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 3, clocking a total of 300.398 million Impressions. Zee TV jumped one position up to No. 4 with 257.575 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB with 249.748 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 242.791 million Impressions. DD National stood at No. 7 with 166.272 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 8 with 141.416 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 9 with 112.203 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 10 with 106.674 million Impressions.

Top programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors' Naagin Season 2 led the top programmes list with 7.297 million Impressions followed by Sony Entertainment Television's The Kapil Sharma Show with 6.721 million Impressions. Colors' Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 3 with 6.522 million Impressions. Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 6.062 million Impressions. Sony SAB's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood at No. 5 with 6.051 million Impressions.

Top channels in Rural markets

Rishtey continued its lead with 322.903 million Impressions. Star Utsav followed with 282.399 million Impressions while Zee Anmol gained numbers to grab the third spot with 271.375 million Impressions. At No. 4, Sony Pal gained eyeballs as it garnered 251.910 million Impressions. DD National slipped two positions to No. 5 with 219.027 million Impressions. Colors stood at No. 6 with 197.171 million Impressions.Star Plus stood at No. 7 with 192.908 million Impressions. Zee TV at No. 8 gained 177.016 million Impressions. At No. 9, Life OK garnered 135.637 million Impressions while Sony Entertainment Television trailed at No. 10 with 125.840 million Impressions.

DD National's L/T Paytm-17 1 ODI Ind/Eng was at No. 3 with 7.480 million Impressions. Colors' Naagin Season 2 stood at No. 4 with 4.133 million Impressions and Zee Anmol's Jodha Akbar stood at No. 5 with 4.027 million Impressions.
