Amazon Prime Video partners with OML, intends to tickle funny bone of viewers

The subscription-based online content provider will take 14 exclusive stand-up specials to viewers in India and globally across 200 countries and territories

Amazon Prime Video, which launched in India in December last year, has partnered with Only Much Louder (OML) to bring India's top comedians and their rib-tickling content to viewers in India and world over.

The long-term arrangement is intended to make Prime Video India the subscription streaming home for 14 stand-up comedy specials with the likes of Sapan Verma, Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian, Zakir Khan, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Sorabh Pant and many more working their magic. The hour-long specials will debut on the platform exclusively by May 2017 and will be available to viewers on Amazon Prime Video India and also globally across 200 countries and territories.

Speaking about the idea behind the content, Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head, Amazon Prime Video India, said, “We have seen that comedy is a top genre. Irrespective of whether it is a movie or a TV show, comedy just works. Also, a lot of these comedians are difficult to get one's hands on because their tickets sell out pretty quick. And that was the opportunity that we recognised. There hasn't been a stand-up comedy special in India before. People might have seen a two-minute video or a sponsored 10-minute video. So we asked ourselves what was the best way to bring the best material from these comedians, in a not-staged format, while simultaneously upping the quality of the content and the answer was stand-up comedy specials.”

Talking about the partnership, Ajay Nair, COO, Only Much Louder, said, “Stand-up comedy in India has become massive over the last few years with a huge fan base across the country and the comics have worked tremendously hard to create and perform the funniest material for their fans. Amazon Prime Video is a great destination for fans to watch full hour-long sets of their favourite comics in one go.”

These specials will be shot at iconic venues across the country in the first half of 2017 and two to three specials will be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video every month.

• Sapan Verma (Obsessive Comedic Disorder has already launched on Amazon Prime Video in December 2016)
• Sorabh Pant (My dad thinks he's funny has already launched on Amazon Prime Video)
• Kanan Gill
• Kenny Sebastian (Don't be that guy)
• Zakir Khan, (Single magar haq se)
• Biswa Kalyan Rath
• Naveen Richard (Don't make that face)
• Anuvab Pal (Alive at 40)
• Varun Thakur (Vicky this side, Varun that side)
• Azeem Banatwalla (Cometh the hour)
• Neville Shah
• Aadar Malik (Stand up – The Musical)
• S Aravind (Madrasi Da)
• EIC Outrage special, a live show based on EIC's immensely popular EIC Outrage series will be part of the show.
