Dirty water kills 6,000 children every day. Infant and child mortality is the hidden reason why people in developing countries have more children. What is shocking is that diarrhoea kills young children than malaria, AIDS and TB combined.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Swachh Bharat, Aquakraft Projects Pvt Ltd., and iTV Network launched Swachhagraha, an advocacy platform in association with the Children's Film Society of India on August 15.

“Children are the future of our country and clean drinking water, sanitation, nutrition, health and hygiene are the fundamental rights of every child irrespective of caste, creed, sex, religion, demographic, social or economic strata. Swachhagraha is a platform to aggregate support, donors, partners, volunteers, ideas and innovations to make clean drinking water, safe toilets, adequate nutrition and hygiene across schools in India, thereby enabling a healthy and clean India. We will aggressively advocate the cause of Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat, Sampann Bharat,” said Kartikeya Sharma, Founder & Promoter, iTV Network.

Subramanya Kusnur, the architect of Swachhagraha, said, “Swachh for us is sanitation and water for children health and hygiene and Agraha is an invitation to invite all the stakeholders of the society for inclusive development of India. The objective is to bridge the divide between the haves and the have nots. Swachhagraha's mantra is, 'By the children, for the children, of the children'. The entire programme will be executed through colleges and universities in schools under their jurisdiction. College students will co-ordinate and facilitate the entire programme to be managed by student council proposed to be set up in each school. Advocacy will be done on the perils of contaminated waste, lack of toilets and sanitation, girl child sanitation, garbage and litter. It is our strong view that any intervention preceding proper knowledge and advocacy is generally non-sustainable.”

Chatur Ideas, a young and dynamic organisation promoting the Start Up India programme across several universities and colleges by mentoring ideas and creating entrepreneurs, would be the programme implementation partner of Swachhagraha. Chatur Ideas is connected with over 450 colleges / universities across 125 cities in India. “We are very excited to partner with Aquakraft & iTV Network in Swachhagraha and equally more with over 80 colleges and 4,800 volunteers joining the programme. This shows that India is ready for the revolution and inclusive participation is the only way to grass root development. We hope and are quite certain that all the 450 colleges across 125 cities in India will join the programme. This will enable us to create Swachhpreneurs who will not only build enterprises but also will become guardians and mentors of drinking water and sanitation assets across the country and particularly schools in the hinterland,” said Devesh Chawla, Founder and CEO of Chatur Ideas.

“It is very heartening to see the support pouring from all quarters across schools, corporates and volunteers. A Nukkad Natak 'Swachh Baharat Sachh Hoga' scripted by Mokshada Amur and Mehak Srivastava, students of Mass Media communication was enacted by children of eight schools in Talassari, Maharashtra under the auspices of Larsen & Toubro Public Charitable Trust on Independence Day. Similarly over 2,000 students of MVM Educational Trust at Andheri, Mumbai pledged their support to Swachhagraha by way of mentoring schools in rural areas in the outskirts of Mumbai. This is truly reflecting the mantra of the programme and who better than children to bring about the much-needed social transformation of the society at large,” concluded Subramanya who is the Founder Chairman & CEO of Aquakraft Projects Pvt Ltd.
