To make Gurgaon roads safer and to further spread awareness about overall road safety in the city, the Gurgaon Traffic Police has launched a unique campaign – 'Let's talk about Road Safety'. The campaign aims to engage and collaborate with all key stakeholders such as HUDA, RTA, PWD, MCG, hospitals, schools, corporates and Hotels and Bars Association to jointly work towards addressing and promoting road safety.

'Let's talk about Road Safety' campaign is supported by 'Respect to Road' programme, which was jointly launched in 2011 by Gurgaon Traffic Police and SABMiller India. In 2013, innovative road safety mascot – 'Traffic Tau' – conceptualised by SABMiller India was jointly launched by Gurgaon Traffic Police and SABMiller India.

The campaign was unveiled by Satish Chandra, IAS, and Member Finance, NHAI, and SS Kapur, IPS, ADGCID, Haryana. Also present at the function were senior dignitaries such as Bharti Arora - IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Gurgaon, and Saurabh Singh - IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, HQ.

A movie created by the Gurgaon Traffic Police on road safety with various stakeholders like doctors, lawyers, auto drivers, truck drivers, road accident victims, children, cyclist groups, road safety officers (RSOs), women safety officers (WSOs), etc., was released at the event. Key stakeholders present at the launch came forward to talk about road safety and its importance.

All stakeholders such as schools and colleges, hospitals, cinemas, corporates and RTAs have been given responsibilities to spread awareness about road safety. The campaign will be promoted at schools and colleges to spread awareness on the importance of safety among students, parents and school staff. Schools and colleges will need to develop innovative ways of putting road safety messages across and promote a sense of responsibility and positive citizenship among children.

Hospitals will need to ensure best possible emergency response and care at the accident scene, followed by transfer to hospital/ trauma care centre. Cinemas will be running video clips on road safety before movies, corporates' role will be to sensitise employees on road safety and participate in awareness campaign and drives. Whereas RTAs will have exhaustive checking before issuance of permits and do periodic checks. Rigorous checking of commercial vehicles and mechanism to ensure limited number of autos in a particular area are other vital responsibilities for RTAs.

As part of this campaign, road safety mascot 'Traffic Tau' will also be seen promoting the message about road safety on Gurgaon roads and providing a helping a hand to the Gurgaon Traffic Police. Styled after the traditional Haryanvi person, Traffic Tau can be seen at police intersections, traffic lights, etc., engaging with the commuters and urging them to follow traffic rules.
