GITF-logo-150In an effort to boost online holiday bookings in India, IPG Mediabrands and Google India have joined hands with the travel industry to host the Great Indian Travel Festival (GITF). The Festival, running from April 18 to 26, 2015 offers users great deals and discounts on travel and stay packages to more than 50 holiday destinations, both within and outside India.

Speaking about the potential of GITF.in, Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, said, “We are delighted to bring India's first travel mega-sale extravaganza, our partners are excited about the potential of an initiative like GITF.in. We expect to reach over 3 million users over the course of the nine days festival and make it a big success.”

According to the IAMAI 2014 Digital Commerce report, online travel is worth $8.2 billion and is 61.4 per cent of the total online commerce in India. The industry has been growing at around 20 per cent year-on-year and an initiative of this kind can boost online holiday sector growth.

The online festival sees participation from players in the travel industry like Cleartrip, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Yatra and Via; airlines such as Jet Airways, Indigo, British Airways and SpiceJet; holiday players like Cox & Kings and Thomas Cook; and startups like Oyo Rooms and Doorstepforex. The Festival will also feature offers from hotels like Hyatt, ITC Hotels and The Leela Palaces, and RedBus.
