Conceptualised by Ogilvy & Mather, Zomato's two 45- second ad spots directed by Shoojit Sircar have touched the right chord. They explore relationships and show how they can revolve around food.

The first ad shows a father welcoming his daughter home and trying to feed her food cooked by him. The pasta unfortunately gets overcooked and even before the father can express his disappointment; his daughter reveals she has already ordered food through the Zomato app.

In the other ad, a mother welcomes her son home who insists that she should not spend time in the kitchen cooking for him. He seems to have ordered food through the Zomato app and the delivery boy rings the bell.

Explaining the insight behind the two ads, Pramod Rao, SVP, Growth for Zomato, said, “If there is one thing that brings together the same way as sports does, it's food. When we decided to go with our TV commercial for our online ordering product, we wanted it to be as real as possible - something that revolved around what brings us together at our homes. We also came across this tweet by one of our users which captured the essence of our concept. We approached Ogilvy & Mather (this is also the first time we are engaging an agency) to develop the concept further and seeing the concept come into shape over the last couple of months has been an amazing journey.”

On being asked why they chose Shoojit Sircar, he said, “Going with Shoojit Sircar was a no- brainer for turning this concept into reality. He's probably one of the only directors in Bollywood who has a very real storytelling style, and captures day- to- day relationships beautifully, as was displayed in his film Piku. We connected immediately on the concept, and gave Shoojit the creative liberty to direct the ads in his own style.”
