With the deadline for DAS implementation nearing, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a circular, seeking stock of the DAS awareness initiatives undertaken by broadcasters, Multi Screen Operators and Local Cable Operators. Set Top Boxes need to be installed before the cut-off date of December 31, 2015.

Assuming that the concerned parties have already taken the requisite initiatives, the MIB has underlined that broadcasters, Multi Screen Operators, and LCOs may submit details of the awareness programmes, along with documentary proof to the ministry within 15 days of the issue of the circular.

During the 11th Task Force meeting held on September 22, 2015 for DAS implementation, the issue of DAS awareness was discussed at length.

The ministry had held a number of regional workshops on cable TV digitisation with nodal officers nominated by the state Governments and the registered MSos. Daylong workshops were held under the chairpersonship of Joint Secretary R Jaya. Seven workshops were held at Ghandigarh, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Bhopal, Shillong and Hyderabad.  The workshops have been successful in sensitizing the state nodal officers about their role and responsibilities in pre and post- digitisation periods in phase III areas.

All India Radio and Doordarshan had started advertising about cable digitisation on their channels and they needed to scale it up.

Pulak Bagchi, representative of ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) had informed that they, together with Cable Federation, had started 'Chetna Yatra', which is planned to cover 450 cities sensitizing the consumers and operators alike about the mandatory cable digitisation in phase III areas by December 31, 2015. He said that a comprehensive report on this would be submitted to the Ministry.

Joint Secretary R Jaya mentioned that as a next step towards publicity awareness campaigns, broadcasters and MSOs should inform the cable TV users in phase I areas through scroll messages on their channels, to get set top boxes installed in their homes before the cut-off date of December 31, 2015.
