Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Quantico’ off to a good start

As per BARC data, ‘Quantico’ fetched ratings of 16.28 (sum of 000s) to emerge as the second best rated show in Week 40 on English GECs

Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra’s maiden international TV series ‘Quantico’ has made an impact on the Indian English GEC space with its very first episode that aired on October 3, 2016 at 9.00 pm on Star World. The show also aired on Star World HD and Star World Premiere.

Given the size of the English entertainment space in India, the English shows/ channels usually don’t set the numbers like their Hindi counterparts, but Priyanka Chopra’s international TV debut has fuelled growth for Star World in Week 40 (October 3-9) of BARC ratings.

As per select data (6 Mega Cities : NCCS AB : Individuals : BARC India base - C&S 1Lac+), Zee Café continued to top the table with a viewership of 235 (ratings in sum of 000s), AXN was placed second with a viewership of 126 (rating in sum of 000s), while Comedy Central(v) took the third spot with a viewership of 114 (rating in sum of 000s).

As per data provided by BARC, Star World narrowly missed the third spot, garnering viewership of 112.48 (rating in sum of 000s).

However, in the previous week the channel was ranked third but had a viewership of 87.44 (rating in sum of 000s). Following the launch of ‘Quantico’ on October 3, Star World’s ratings have increased by approximately 28 per cent in Week 40, where it garnered viewership of 112.28 (rating in sum of 000s).

Chopra’s ‘Quantico’ fetched ratings of 16.28 (sum of 000s) to emerge as the second best rated show in Week 40 on English GECs. The top show was ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (Season 8) on Zee that had ratings of 21.48 (sum of OOOs). Colors Infinity’s show ‘Blindspot’ was placed third with ratings of 14.07 (sum of 000s). ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ on Zee Café was at No. 4 with ratings of 11.71 (sum of 000s).

Meanwhile, ‘Quantico’ jumped straight to being the No. 1 show on Star World. Episodes from ‘MasterChef Australia’ and ‘New Girl’ took two spots each among the top five shows on Star World. The ‘MasterChef Australia’ episode aired on October 4 garnered ratings of 14.48 (sum of 000s), while the ‘New Girl’ episode aired on October 8 garnered ratings of 9.79 (sum of 000s).

As the story gathers pace in ‘Quantico’, it will be interesting to see whether the show can sustain the ratings in the coming episodes.
