Celebrating the triumphant human spirit is the new flavour of the season on television. One would recall 'Satyamev Jayate' on Star Plus and the recently-launched 'Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi', both hosted by Bollywood bigwigs Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, respectively. Now Discovery Channel has provided a great fillip to such content by roping in actor Hrithik Roshan as host for its upcoming special series, 'HRX Heroes with Hrithik Roshan'.

The nine-episode series, which premieres on November 2, 2015, will salute the determination, will power and triumph of real life heroes who overcame their limitations and challenges and are today a living inspiration for the rest of the world.

'HRX Heroes with Hrithik Roshan' will air every Monday and Tuesday at 9 pm on Discovery Channel, with repeats on Saturdays and Sundays at 8 pm.

The series will showcase the lives, joys and tribulations of these nine heroes: Harshini Kanhekar (India's first female fire engineer), Kalpana Saroj (once oppressed but now a Dalit entrepreneur), Navin Gulia (handicapped, yet an adventurer, philanthropist, and a motivational speaker), Saji Thomas (deaf and mute, built his own aircraft), Sangram Singh (wrestler), Sudha Chandran (lost a leg but went on to become a well-known actor/dancer), Shekhar Naik (visually impaired cricketer), Subhreet Kaur (lost a leg, but is a dancer), and Virendra Singh (deaf athlete-wrestler).

Rahul Johri, EVP and GM - South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, commented, “Discovery Channel has been entertaining and inspiring viewers in India for the last 20 years with the finest range of factual programmes. 'HRX Heroes with Hrithik Roshan' is an outstanding series that salutes the undying spirit of real life heroes. I am confident that Hrithik Roshan's popularity will motivate millions to discover the hero in them. Interestingly, Hrithik has aligned his lifestyle brand HRX with the show's title, but HRX is not a sponsor to the show.”

He added, “The show is a joint effort between Hrithik and us. Because he is the anchor, Hrithik has used his HRX branding. The show is completely produced by us.”

Johri also informed that Hrithik had not charged any fee for doing the show. “Our engagement with Hrithik is not commercial. That's because he's associated with the show. This is something that he believes in. The concept has been conceived by the Discovery team.”

Launching the series, Hrithik Roshan said, “I wish to share with the world and spread the belief that it is possible to look adversity in the face and emerge victorious by overcoming it. 'HRX Real Heroes' will bring to focus these incredible real life stories which the entire nation needs to admire. I believe Discovery Channel is the ideal platform to spread the message of courage and determination, which in turn will inspire thousands of more such heroes.”

The show is presented by Mountain Dew, a brand that Hrithik Roshan endorses. Maruti Suzuki is the powered by sponsor, while LIC has been roped in as the associate sponsor.
