In keeping with its strategy to introduce new content with shows of different genres every quarter, Doordarshan National is all set to launch four new shows this October, which include two crime shows, a daily soap and a weekend music reality show.

Doordarshan launched its new look with a bunch of new shows in August this year, which included period dramas, daily soaps and slice of life dramas in the prime time slots keeping in mind the TG of 15-32 years.

Deepa Chandra, ADG - Programming, Doorarshan, commented, “The slow and steady approach adopted by us to garner good viewership and ratings has started to show promising results. Keeping with that, our second stage of introducing fresh content in prime time band is beginning from October 19.”

Starting off with two crime shows based on real stories – 'IPS Diary' premieres on October 19 and will air on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10.30 pm; 'Mashaal' goes on air from October 21 and will be aired on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10.30 pm – the channel hopes to induce a new flavour in its prime time slotting.

'IPS Diary' will bring back a familiar and popular face from yesteryears, Kavita Choudhary, of 'Udaan' fame of the 1980s era. She is featuring as a retired cop in the show and will bring some heart-rending crime cases with her.

Daily soap 'Albeli – Kahaani Pyar Ki' goes on air from October 26 at 9.30 pm. It is the story of a Gujarati village girl, who is married into a posh corporate family. How the rustic girl blends and blunders into a beautiful romance with the suave, rich boy is the way story unfolds.

DD National is sprucing up its weekend offering with 'Sur Sagar', which premieres on October 31 at 9.00 pm. The show will feature 20 bands and 20 singers competing for the title and will have Lesle Lewis, Shilpa Rao and Soham Chakraborty as the judges.

Commenting on the new shows, Chandra said that the success of a show depended first on its selection followed by its slotting. About the careful slotting of shows, she said, “We aim to grab eyeballs of our target group from metros as well as B&C cities all over India. As per recent research, our TG is the bright and alert youth amongst both men and women in the 15-30 age group. Hence, we have a potpourri of interesting content this festive season.”

She further informed that the next tranche of new shows would be unveiled in January 2016.
