Inext, the bilingual compact daily from Jagran Group, is assuming a broadsheet avatar from today. Twelve editions of the paper have been turned into broadsheet across Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

Alok Sanwal Alok Sanwal

Speaking about the move, Alok Sanwal, Editor & COO, Inext, Jagran Prakashan Limited, said, “This step is basically to expand in our key markets and go deeper in the small towns. As of now, 12 editions in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be transformed into broadsheets, while only the Indore edition will remain in its compact format.”

No changes have been made in the paper's pricing as of now. According to Sanwal, the whole idea behind going broadsheet was to increase penetration in the tier II and III cities and attract more male adult audiences who are still comfortable with broadsheets.

Speaking about the competition, Sanwal said, “There will be no direct competition with the English dailies as our core language is Hindi; even though we are a bilingual daily and use a fair amount of English, the basic grammar is Hindi. Our direct competition will be Amar Ujala, Hindustan, etc.”

When asked about the paper's plans to expand in the metro cities, he informed, “Basic research and recce have been done and very soon we will be looking at taking steps towards that direction.”

Since its launch in 2006, Inext has filled the need gap of the emerging cities and towns. The paper has undergone two major design changes and one format change during this period.
