Asianet launches first Malayalam HD channel

The regional player becomes the first network to launch a Malayalam HD channel in Kerala. The channel – Asianet HD – went live yesterday

Asianet Communications' HD channel, Asianet HD, went live from 6.00 pm yesterday. With this, Asianet becomes the first channel in Kerala to launch an HD channel in Malayalam.

Commenting on the launch of Asianet HD, Reghu Ramchandran, Senior VP (Operations), Asianet Communications, said, “Asianet started in 1993 when satellite TV was unheard of in India. We are pioneers in the industry and wanted to do this in the Malayalam space first. HD is going to be the future of satellite TV.”

When asked about the revenue plans and pricing, Ramchandran said, “We will have a mix of subscription and advertisement in the revenue plans. We plan to start at nominal rates and would look at growing the market. We have various subscription plans and are still in the process of finalising them.”

Asianet HD will air a mix of superhit movies, popular serials, reality shows and other entertainment programmes.
