On Earth Day (April 22, 2015), Multi Screen Media (MSM) and BBC announced the intention to form a strategic partnership to launch BBC Earth, a new premium factual television channel in India.

BBC Worldwide will draw on its extensive catalogue of programming from the BBC's foremost factual filmmakers, while MSM, which runs the Sony network of television channels in the country, has extensive experience in operating and distributing television channels in India.

BBC Earth will bring to viewers the incredible wonders of our universe.

In October 2013, the BBC had announced that it would roll out three new brands – BBC Earth, BBC First, and BBC Brit. BBC Earth had its global launch in Poland on February 1, 2015, where it replaced BBC Knowledge. It is learnt that the channel launched in HD version in Hungary on April 14, 2015.
