Commenting on this yearâs awards, Tim Lindsay, CEO, D&AD, said, âInternational entries to D&AD have gone up over 15 per cent this year, which is a reflection of D&ADâs continued relevance in maturing creative markets like Brazil and India. The quality of craft in categories like Branded Content and Integrated is a real theme this year: an understanding that great creative can play a vital role in earning media is really coming through in the production value of much of the work.â
âWeâve also seen a big increase in design work being entered across all categories, which I hope indicates that creative businesses at all levels of agency and studio size are thriving,â he added.
Overall, D&AD has awarded 235 Pencils so far in the categories: Crafts for Advertising (18 Pencils), Crafts for Design (43 Pencils), Integrated and Innovative Media (27 Pencils), Magazine and Newspaper Design (28 Pencils), Mobile Marketing (14 Pencils) and White Pencil juries (48 Pencils). All 234 pieces will appear in the 53rd D&AD Annual to be published later this year.
There are no quotas for awards at D&AD. Therefore, the number of awarded entries fluctuates year to year. Some years no Black Pencils are awarded, the record currently stands at just six.
