Code-Red-Panel-Discussion

Colors has announced the launch of its new show 'Code Red', which depicts the inner conflict a human being goes through when faced with a crisis of conscience. The show premieres on January 19, and will be aired every Monday to Saturday at 10.30 PM.

The channel organised a panel discussion, 'Battling Demons: Inner and Outer', for the new show in Delhi on January 13. Among the panellists were Kiran Bedi, actor Tisca Chopra, Supreme Court lawyer and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Twitter India Head Rishi Jaitly, and advocate-turned-politician Pinki Anand.

The show will attempt to understand human weakness amidst the daily struggles of life, and how people react to situations beyond their control. Through different perspectives, it will showcase the steps that people are likely to take when they are pushed into situations where a breakdown is imminent.

Each week six episodes featuring stories based on various human frailties will be presented through three themes – 'Umeed' which will focus on the stories of those people who are on the verge of ending their lives; 'Awaaz' focussing on violence against women and children; and 'Chakravyuh' focussing on various forms of entrapment, physical and psychological.

Each theme will be brought to life by a different production house and the stories will be presented by television actor Sakshi Tanwar who will embody the inner voice and also will be the voice of reason. Actors Manish Chaudhari, in the role of an NGO representative, and Yash Sinha, as a crime reporter, will take us through various instances where circumstances and conditions pushed a person to the wall. Code Red will attempt, not only to showcase these stories but to make people believe that there is hope, only if they choose to break the silence.

'Umeed' will be produced by FremantleMedia India, while Sun Shine Rise Productions will produce 'Awaaz' that will highlight stories of crimes against women and children. The entrapment shows 'Chakravyuh' will be co-produced by Optimystix India and Shlok Entertainment LLP.

On the promotion of the show, Sapangeet Rajwant, VP - Marketing, Colors, said, “Typically, when a channel launches a show, it has its print, outdoor and various other forms of marketing plans, and when the show is launched finally, the channel does not intend to do anything to market that show. We have decided to have a sustained effort as our objective is to do something positive for society. We have tied up with Dainik Bhaskar on a long-term basis as our print partner. Every week we will be highlighting issues which are disturbing our society in the regions where Bhaskar is present. So, we will do multiple edit-based activities. Similarly, we have tied up with Big FM's famous show 'Dilli Meri Jaan' which also talks about the same kind of issues. On the digital front, we have the #KhaamoshiTodo activity where we want people to speak up and raise their voice.”

Talking about the time band of the show, Rajwant said, “The 10.30 PM slot is one which has inclusivity of the entire family – males and females – which is why we thought that this time slot would be appropriate.”

Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors, commented, “At Colors, we have always emphasised on creating shows that are meaningful and which can bring about some kind of a conceivable change in the society. With 'Code Red', we are going to step further by showcasing stories of human frailties and urging people to break their silence on issues that are disturbing them and the people around them. It is not just a show, but a movement. People will believe that hope can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one reaches out and breaks the silence.”

Manisha Sharma, Programming Head, Colors, said, “This is a genre in television that needs to be explored a lot more where stories inspired by real instances are mounted to create a show relatable to audiences. As human beings, we all face dilemmas in life while choosing between right and wrong. 'Code Red' is a show that explores these dilemmas and gives voice to the conscience of the people facing them. I hope our audiences find the show and these stories riveting.”
