Patrika TV gets licence for a satellite news channel in any language while MCCS gets licence for Punjabi news channel 'ABP Sanjha'

Patrika-and-MCCSMinistry of Information & Broadcasting has granted uplinking permission to two regional news channels. Rajasthan Patrika, publisher of Hindi dailies Rajasthan Patrika and Patrika in 35 cities in eight states, has got the licence to uplink its regional news channel, Patrika TV Rajasthan. This will be the first satellite channel from Rajasthan Patrika.

Another news channel which has got uplinking permission is Punjabi news channel ABP Sanjha, from Media Content & Communications Services (MCCS) which already runs a national news channel, ABP News, in Hindi and two regional news channels, ABP Majha in Marathi and ABP Ananda in Bengali.

With these two news channels, the total number of news channels permitted for uplinking from India and also to downlink into India has reached 375. For the record, there are six news channels in India with permission to uplink from India but not to downlink into India. The number of news channels with only downlink permission into India is 16.
