Radio_Mirchi1Radio Mirchi has kicked off the countdown to the 6th Mirchi Music Awards with its screening jury meet in Mumbai. The screening jury members are tasked with the job of going through hundreds of songs for shortlisting the top 5 songs in each category.

The screening jury meet will be followed by the Grand Jury meet scheduled for January 22, 2014. The awards night will be held in mid-February.

The screening jury panel comprises members like Akbar Sami, Abhishek Ray, Shibani Kashyap, Bishwadeep Chatterjee, Jitu Shankar, Kavita Seth, Raju Singh, Shamir Tandon, Teesha Nigam, Dominique Cerejo, Anand Sharma, Niranjan Iyengar, Abhijeet Sawant, Sona Mahapatra, Mayur Puri, Kannan Mohan, Arindam Mukhapadhyay, Vidya Shah, Shoojit Kumar Ojha.

Kavita Seth said, “It has been a fabulous year (2013) for the music industry with melodious songs topping the charts. We have seen many soulful songs being nominated for awards. Listening to every song and shortlisting five songs in each category was difficult. We have tried our best and picked the best of the lot.”

K. Mohan of Agnee said, “This is my first year as a screening jury member. I am really happy to be part of it. It is one of the most difficult jobs to listen to so many songs and select just five songs in each category. Surprisingly, in 2013 there were many songs in Rock Ballet category. I am glad that the genre has been given recognition.”

Talking about this year's screening, Dominique Cerejo said, “I have been on the jury for the last three years. Every year music trends change. I am really impressed by the songs nominated in the Sufi category this year; the songs have terrific production quality and are really refreshing. Hopefully the upcoming year has many creative and fresh songs in store for listeners.”

Prashant Panday, Executive Director and CEO, ENIL, which runs Radio Mirchi, said, “The countdown for shortlisting the best songs of the year has begun. MMA follows the most stringent process to arrive at the results. The entire process is conducted and audited by E&Y. This year has been fabulous for the Hindi music industry and we have seen a lot of upcoming and promising talents. We would like to thank the jury members who have stood by Mirchi Music Awards, making it the ultimate music award show in the country. The 6th edition promises to get bigger and grander.”
