news-nation-logoNews Nation crossed another milestone when it was awarded the record for “Most telegrams sent in a day (group)” by Limca Book of Records. News Nation marked the exit of telegrams in India by sending out 400 telegrams on July 13, 2013. The recipients included the President, the then Prime Minister of India and all chief ministers of states, eminent actors, sports person among others. The telegramcarried the message “Ab telegram nahi aayega, News Nation har khabar pahuchayega” .The record will feature in the 2015 edition of the book which will come out in January'15.

For more than 130 years after being launched by India's former British rulers in 1850, the telegram was the backbone of urgent communication. The terse messages announced momentous events: the death of a family member, the birth of a child, news of a soldier on the warfront. State-run telecom firm BSNL discontinued telegrams following a huge shortfall in revenue.
