Digital natives, forever online, the connected generation – today's youth is synonymous with all these terms and for good reason. Be it looking for information or looking for love or building own career – everything is done at the click of a button. Living your life online also mean sex posing personal details to people online but not all of them could be friends. Thus, it becomes essential for one to be smart while using the online medium. MTV India, India's leading youth brand presents MTV Webbed 2, a show empowering the youth to navigate the digital world smartly, hosted by popular actress Kritika Kamra starting April 4 at 7 PM.

After a successful first season which saw 75 million people tuning in to watch the show, and over 3 million people tuning in online, MTV is launching MTV Webbed 2as a 13 part series targeting 12 -24 year olds. This show is for anyone and everyone who logs in on the web to meet old friends, make new friends, and surf for information, download videos or even share a joke. The show recreates the situations where youngsters have been 'Webbed' online, capturing real life cases of cyber abuse. The objective is to empower them with information to protect themselves from any potential harm.

MTV ACT which isMTV's pro-social campaign that lives 365 days and strives to create awareness on various social causes, has tied up with Cyber Crime Awareness Society (CCAS) to drive cyber security awareness. MTV is hosting Cyber Safety Awareness workshops in colleges across the country for interactive sessions with students to encourage them to exercise caution while accessing the internet. While MTV will highlight the need to surf smart on the internet, CCAS will be educating the youngsters about apps and measures that can protect them from getting 'webbed' in everyday life.  This will be supported by an extensive outreach across 200+ colleges.

Commenting on the new season, Aditya Swamy, EVP and Business Head, MTV India said, “MTV Webbed in its opening season proved to be an instant hit with young people. Socially relevant and yet entertaining, this is classic case of content that hits the sweet spot. We believe that educating and empowering youth is as important as entertaining them and that makes this a franchise with long legs. With Kritika leading us through the season, heavy duty marketing across platforms and power towns and a fresh set of deeply engaging stories, season 2 is ready to kick off to the mantra of Surf Smart… Stay Safe.”

The host of the show Kritika Karma said, “I was exultant when MTV approached me to host Webbed 2. I've seen the first season and found it to be a fantastic eye opener for the ever connected youth. The internet is a vast and unknown territory and while we think we are engaging in harmless activities while surfing the net, we don't realize how vulnerable we can be. Through MTV Webbed 2, my aim is to help the youth make informed choices so that they understand how their actions could sometimes lead to disastrous consequences. The internet is a beautiful place if used for the right reasons – that is accessing information that could enrich you in some way, but not everyone out there is noble and it's up to us to keep ourselves safe.”

Past MTV studies have shown that more than 40% of youngsters have received spam or pornographic messages from strangers. A study conducted CCAS has revealed that India ranks third in the world with respect to the prevalence of cyber abuse. With online gaming, e-commerce and social networking only looking to boom – the threats grow bigger. Knowledge is power– and MTV Webbed 2 looks to empower the youth with information how to protect themselves on the World Wide Web.
