As TAM's annual universe update takes effect, the universe size of Hindi-speaking markets has increased to 212 million from 206 million from Week 1, 2014. The Digital-Analog split of the universe is now at 69:31 against 66:34 in 2013.

The New Year started on a high note for Hindi general entertainment channels with the top two channels – Star Plus and Colors – receiving huge viewership for their award functions at the yearend. While Big Star Entertainment Awards on Star Plus became the highest rated awards function ever with 12.4 TVM, Golden Petal Awards on Colors fetched 10.0 TVM.

Zee TV and SAB TV witnessed growth on the back of their fiction shows.

According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 1 of TAM 2014 (December 29, 2013 - January 4, 2014) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus continued to dominate the weekday programming with five of its shows in the top 10. Zee TV strengthened its presence in the top 10 club with three shows, leaving one each for Colors and SAB TV.

The weekend programming was dominated by 'Comedy Night with Kapil' on Colors which witnessed further surge in ratings.

Among new shows, 'Beintehaa' on Colors launched at 3.2 TVM and averaged at 3.0 TVM over the week. Colors' second new fiction show, 'Rang Rasiya', opened at 3.6 TVM and averaged at 3.1 TVM.

Weekday toppers (all data in TVM, 000000's)

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus again crossed 12 TVM in the first week of TAM 2014. The show recorded 12.8 TVM this week (last week 11.8 TVM).

Jodha Akbar on Zee TV grew further and fetched 10.9 TVM (last week 10.3 TVM).

SAB's Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma held No. 3 position with improved viewership of 10.3 TVM against last week's 9.9 TVM.

Star Plus' Saathiya hits a lifetime high of 10.2 TVM and held No. 4 position (last week 9.7).

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus witnessed decline in viewership but remained at No. 5. The show recorded an average viewership of 8 TVM (last week 9.3 TVM).

Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke on Zee TV jumped four positions to No. 6 recording 6.9 TVM (last week 6.1 TVM).

Star Plus' epic series, Mahabharat, slipped one position to No. 7. The show recorded an average TVM of 6.8 TVM (last week 7 TVM).

Pyaar Ka Dard Hai also shipped one position to No. 8 with 6.6 TVM (last week 7 TVM).

Balika Vadhu on Colors dropped to No. 9 position garnering 6.6 TVM (last week 7 TVM).

Qubool Hai on Zee TV entered the top 10 this week with an average viewership of 6.1 TVM (last week 5.5).

Weekend toppers

Comedy Night with Kapil on Colors grew to 9 TVM in the first week of TAM 2014 (last week 8.8 TVM).

Sony's crime series, CID, dropped to 4.7 TVM against last week's 5.4 TVM.

Dance India Dance Season 4 witnessed a decline in viewership in the first week of TAM 2014 and recorded 4 TVM (last week 4.6 TVM).

Life OK's latest weekend offering. Hatim, held its viewership at 3.8 TVM in the second week.

Life OK's Shapath recorded 3.6 TVM (last week 3.7).

Nach Baliye 6 on Star Plus fetched 3.5 TVM (last week 3.7 TVM).

Sony's other crime show, Crime Patrol, dropped to 3.2 TVM (last week 4.1 TVM).

 

Fear Files on Zee TV recorded 2.9 TVM (last week 2.4).

Boogie Woogie on Sony dropped further to 2.5 TVM in its third week (last week 3).

Star Plus' crime fiction, Arjun, recorded 1.6 TVM (last week 1.8 TVM).

 

Bh Se Bhade on Zee TV fetched 1.5 TVM (last week 1.8 TVM).
