Nestlé takes a dig at Apple as Google launches KitKat OS

The confectionary giant has come out with a spoof promo video, put up a huge model of the Android icon shaped like a KitKat bar outside the Google headquarters in Mountainview, California, and redesigned the KitKat website peppered with digs at Apple

Mega brands have a way of making the best of big occasions. Google, Apple, Nestle – the pack can't get bigger than this. Coinciding with its 15th birthday celebrations, Google announced that the name of the latest version of its Android mobile OS will be KitKat!

The name of its latest OS may have surprised many, but then, Google has for the first time tied up with a mega brand for a launch. And this was a good enough trigger for Nestle to come out with a spoof on Apple, which is locked in a fierce global market battle with Google in the mobile arena, on the KitKat website.

Google has traditionally named different versions of its Android using sweet themes in alphabetical order. The tradition started with Android Cupcake (version 1.5) in 2009, then came Donut, Eclair, Froyo (frozen yoghurt), Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and, most recently, Jelly Bean (versions 4.1-4.3).

The redesigned KitKat website is peppered with digs at Apple, and uses a lot of Apple jargon. If Apple's iPhone 5 was "the biggest thing to happen to an iPhone since the first iPhone," the KitKat 4.4 is "the best ever thing to happen to confectionary."

And for Nestle it was time to say once again “There's a KitKat for that. No matter what kind of break you're looking for, with 2 mega-bites, 4 mega-bites or a chunky-bite option, we've got it covered.”

Nestlé also came out with a spoof promo video for their famous chocolate bar. The video on the website shows KitKat's Chief Breaks Officer saying that the company “got the perfect confectionery right the first time”.
