Kolkata-based Saradha Printing and Publications Pvt. Ltd, which is a part of the rapidly expanding Saradha Group of companies, has decided to close down The Bengal Post daily English newspaper published from Kolkata and Siliguri from Sunday, March 31, 2013.
The daily’s last edition officially came out on March 27, 2013. A notice has been put up by the company informing employees of the decision to shut shop. Employees have been assured that their dues would be cleared by April 15, 2013, even though reasons for the closure have not been outlined.
The Bengal Post was launched on June 29, 2010. The flagship of the group is Saradha Realty India Ltd, established in 2008.
For the record, Saradha Printing & Publication also publishes Sakalbela, a Bengali daily, from Kolkata, Silliguri, Durgapur, Guwahati, Agartala, Shibsagar and New Delhi. The company also owns the Hindi daily Prabhat Barta and Urdu daily Azad Hind.
