The 'Dilli Meri Hai' initiative aims to make the capital a safer city for women

BestMediaInfo Bureau | Delhi | February 27, 2013

publive-imageIndia is growing very fast across sectors but one thing that seems to be lacking is safety. Recent reports have titled Delhi as the 'most unsafe city for women' in the country. In such times, it makes one feel that a girl is unsafe even in the presence of company and not just when alone.

To address these issues, Radio Mirchi has introduced a special initiative – Dilli Meri Hai – an attempt to ensure that every woman in the capital, from housewives to working women to students, feel safe and are able to live their lives without hesitation or fear. In the first phase of the drive, Radio Mirchi worked towards increasing the 'safety quotient' of the beautiful parks of Delhi.

The drive will further include various activities such as Radio Mirchi teams taking listeners to some of the most unsafe places of Delhi. To encourage participation, listeners can send in their queries and concerns via mobile phone – DMH PARK to 58888. These would be filed as a petition to the government to improve safety of parks.

To kickstart the campaign, RJ Anant took listeners to Japanese Park at Rohini on Saturday, February 23, at 8 AM. This visit was accompanied by a lively conversation with the residents of the neighboring localities where Radio Mirchi aimed at assisting women raise their voices over the safety at public places. To engage the listeners further, RJ Anant initiated a slogan contest which was enjoyed by the participants to the fullest.

It's a small start, but as Sachin Tagra, Senior VP, Radio Mirchi, said, “We strongly believe that every woman of our country deserves a safe city. Today, especially Delhi is in a deep need of campaigns such as 'Dilli Meri Hai' to provide women a platform to raise their voices and share their experiences to ensure such incidents are not repeated. It is important that proper safety measures are employed in all the public as well as secluded areas of the city. We hope through our campaign we would be able to make a difference.”
