Governance Now's BV Rao, popularly known as Venkat Rao, is joining Sahara Group. Rao will start handling operations as Group Editor for the Sahara news channels from January 1, 2014.

Beginning with Mid Day in 1989, Rao moved to The Indian Express in 1991. After his four-year stint at Express Bangalore, he joined Free Press Journal as Executive Editor before moving to The Times of India as Deputy Resident Editor for around a year. He was with the India Today Group for three years, and DNA Mumbai for a year as Associate Editor.

Prior to joining Governance Now, Rao was Group Editor with Zee News.

About moving to the broadcast medium after long stint in print, Rao said, "I have never been a big believer in restrictive force of different mediums. Every medium has its strength and TV is one of the most powerful of them. All said and done, be it TV, print or online, a story is a story."

Sahara runs Hindi and Urdu news channels. The company's regional news channels include Samay UP/ Uttarakhand, Samay MP/Chhattisgarh, Samay Bihar/ Jharkhand and Samay Rajasthan.
