Rice is one of India's favourite meals, so chefs at KFC decided to have a go at putting a signature KFC twist on it. They took inspiration from India's famous tradition of rice and made it fragrant and indulgent with spices and condiments. They then developed a rich, spicy gravy to go with it. They tossed some popcorn chicken and some spicy, crunchy veg strips, filled it all into a funky bowl, and voila, India's perfect lunch was ready!

The 25-second TVC has been conceptualised by Ogilvy & Mather, Gurgaon, and has been made in English with edits.

The Rice Bowlz ad features a young executive savouring his Rice Bowl, while seated on his trusted motorcycle. His phone rings mid–bite, shattering his peaceful lunch. He really doesn't want to answer the call, so he picks up the phone, and recites “The number you are trying to call cannot be reached” in a mock sing-song accent. The caller hangs up, and the young man returns to his blissful lunch.

Now you can have the perfect lunch as well, just visit any of KFC's 230+ restaurants across the country and pick up your Rice Bowl, at an unbelievable price of just Rs 69/79. And if your phone starts ringing, you know what to do.

Ajay Gahlaut, Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather, Gurgaon, said, “This is the first time that KFC is coming out with a rice-based dish. KFC is generally known for its chicken or veggie products and snacks. In India rice is the staple food and is generally consumed as a meal and not as a snack in between meals. Hence, rice fits as food for lunch. So, the brief was to make this new product – Rice Bowlz – as a lunch offering. We turned it not just into lunch but into 'extremely tasty lunch,' because the biggest attribute of KFC is that they prepare and serve 'extremely tasty' food.”

Gahlaut added, “The creative idea was that if you are served extremely tasty food, then you do not want to be disturbed by anybody and you want to enjoy your meal in peace. So, we had this young guy who is enjoying his lunch and is disturbed by a phone call. Instead of answering the call, he avoids it, and gets back to relishing his meal. This was the basic thought of the film.”

Dhruv Kaul, Director – Marketing at KFC, said, “Young adultsin India are pressed for time, and find it hard to grab a wholesome and tasty lunch. In our tech savvy lives today, we are bombarded with calls, messages and emails, and it's hard to take a time-out for yourself. We've brought that insight alive in an easy cool manner in our recent advertising and are confident that it will resonate with our customers.”
