Pratap Bose, COO, DDB Mudra Group, has been elected as the new President of Ad Club for 2013-14 at the AGM held in Mumbai on September 10, 2013. He takes over from outgoing President, Shashi Sinha, CEO, Lodestar UM, who led the Ad Club for the last two years.

Other than Bose, the following Office-bearers were elected unopposed to the new committee for 2013-14: Ajay Kakar – Vice-President; Raj Nayak – Secretary; Ajay Chandwani – Joint Secretary; and Umesh Shrikhande – Treasurer.

The elected Mancom members are: Bhaskar Das, Harit Nagpal, Josy Paul; Kunal Jeswani; Punitha Armugham; Ravi Rao; and Rohit Ohri.

The Mancom also includes Immediate Past President Shashi Sinha and Co-opted members Sunil Lulla and Prashant Mohanchandra.

When asked by BestMedia Info.com about his priorities for Ad Club, Bose said, “The Ad Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary next year, it has a lot of pedigree. We owe it to give back something concrete to the communications eco-system. Right now, as the communications business is positioned, there is a surge in rural, digital and social media communications. There is a business need that caters to the young. We need to be able to give better guidance and inputs to them to make better decisions in their life.”

How does he intend to make this possible? Said Bose, “We have to make the Ad Club far more inclusive. It is a non-profit body. All constituents of the Ad Club should be able to address these issues, and we need more people to come on board. When I say inclusive, I mean that all the main ad clubs – Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai and Cochin – should be part of the process, we would like to include them in our endeavours, so that the Ad Club is less Mumbai-centric. We need to build traction for this.”

Bose also hinted that he intends to “introduce new properties” but desisted from sharing any details.

What about the biggest controversy that has bedeviled the Ad Club – proliferation of scam ads, especially in the Abbys, which hung like a dark cloud over Goafest this year? Bose answered, “Let's not forget that creativity is subjective. I know we have had major problems and controversies over scam ads. My take is that we should have clear and transparent guidelines that are universally accepted, the judging process should be locked in properly, and we should start the process of entries and judging much earlier.”

Bose concluded, “I am aware a lot needs to be done. For one, the Emvies need improvement. But on the whole, I am confident that scam ads and such other issues are not something that can't be solved.”
