The Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity, Asia Pacific's premier festival and awards for the creative communications and advertising industry, is introducing some changes to the contribution of points required to calculate the Agency of the Year and the Spikes Palm awards.

The Agency of the Year Award is given to an agency that obtains the highest number of points scored for shortlisted and winning entries in all entry sections except Media. In previous years, this award only considered points from Film, Film Craft, Print, Print & Poster Craft, Radio and Outdoor. This change reflects the growing importance for agencies to span all disciplines and in particular the digital channels.

An agency is eligible to win the award if it has entries in two or more entry sections and all the entries from an agency are taken into account regardless of the entrant company. If an entry is shortlisted and then goes on to win an award, the shortlist point is no longer counted. The maximum number of points awarded to an agency for shortlisted entries is 10.

Point awarded for Agency of the Year: 10 points for a Grand Prix; 7 points for a Gold Spike; 5 points for a Silver Spike; 3 points for a Bronze Spike; 1 point for a shortlist position.

Spikes Palm Award is presented to the production company that earns the most points in Film, Film Craft and, new for this year, also in the Branded Content & Entertainment category, regardless of the entrant company. A production company is eligible to win the award if it has entries in two or more entry sections and all the entries from a production company are taken into account regardless of the entrant company. If an entry is shortlisted and then goes on to win an award, the shortlist point is no longer counted. The maximum number of points awarded to a production company for shortlisted entries is 10.

Points awarded for Spikes Palm: 10 points for a Grand Prix; 7 points for a Gold Spike; 5 points for a Silver Spike; 3 points for a Bronze Spike; 1 point for a shortlist entry.

Changes to Media Agency of the Year Award have already been announced. As such, only a media agency will be eligible to win the award. Advertising agencies, clients, media owners and others can continue to enter and win a Spikes Media award but they cannot compete for the Media Agency of the Year honour.

“The Spikes Asia special awards are highly acclaimed and a benchmark for the industry as well as drivers of new business,” said Terry Savage, Chairman of Lions Festivals. “As such we need to reflect the importance of all media channels in the points earned for the coveted Agency of the Year award to bring it in-line with the Independent Agency of the Year and Network of the Year awards points as well as showing the growing importance of Branded Content & Entertainment in creative communications and echo this in the Spikes Palm award.”

All the special awards, as well as the Advertiser of the Year which is selected by the organisers of Spikes Asia, will be presented to the winners on September 17, 2013, the final day of the Festival.
