Zee News launches 'Karmakshetra', a televised voter awareness show

The show will be telecast on weekdays at 6:30 PM will empower voters to voice their concerns to the MPs from their respective constituencies

BestMediaInfo Bureau | Delhi | June 17, 2013

publive-imageZee Media has time and again showed its intent of strengthening democracy with its various instruments of engagement and empowerment. 'Karmakshetra', a pathbreaking election programme, is one such initiative which started on June 14, 2013 and will be telecast on weekdays at 6:30 PM.

With the widespread belief of early General Elections, Zee Media felt it was imperative to bring an election programme which aims at voicing the concerns and hopes of voters. The show gives every vote a voice and every ballot a face. Karmakshetra will profile every Lok Sabha constituency and its MP, connect the constituents and bring the MPs face-to-face with those who enfranchise them.

The show, which will entail Zee Media team travelling to every Lok Sabha constituency, is being conducted on a scale never seen before on Indian television. Karmakshetra will provide the voter a rare opportunity to question his/her MP on his performance – and demand answers. During the telecast, the MPs will be seen live and respond to what the voters from their constituency want from them.

First in many respects, the programme enables constituents to rate their MPs on their performance across various predetermined parameters. Every Lok Sabha constituency will have a report card that reflects uniquely their concerns and hopes. Every telecast will list the wishes of these constituencies, present a survey of the promises made, and finally those kept. In the end the result will be a unique democratic marking system, reflecting the aspirations of the voters with respect to their MPs.

Sudhir Chaudhary, Editor, Zee News Ltd, said, “Zee Media believes and lives by its motto of 'Soch Badlo, Desh Badlo' and is committed to constructive nation building. Zee News has committed itself to create awareness in Indian citizenry about their rights and responsibilities and is working towards its goals through its programming and allied machinery. We at Zee Media have a singular objective in mind – to turn the world's biggest democracy into a force to reckon with. To achieve this, we will empower, engage and educate the Indian citizenry to collate, collect and commit themselves to nation building. Karmakshetra is yet another programming initiative by us to empower the Indian voter.”
