Public service ad 'Banned' gives 'voice' to the people

India is a free country, but how free are we? There is no client, and YouTube is where you can see this well-crafted film

publive-imageYogensha Productions, which made the award-winning short film, 'Junction', has come out with a public service advertisement (PSA) called 'Banned'. India is a free country, but how free are her people? Censorship is increasingly killing the Indian voice – the voice of freedom. And it's time to raise our voice. The ad film is being aired on YouTube.

The genesis of the PSA is that unless things change, such an environment will eventually produce people who are too afraid and sceptical to express themselves. The campaign takes the concept of 'voice' and has given it a quirky twist.

Alan Aranha, who conceived and directed the film, said, “The response to this campaign has been phenomenal. People are relating to this undeniable reality and there's been an emotional outburst. We are trying to reach out to as many people as possible with this PSA because, quite frankly, the power of change lies with the people.”

When asked who the client is, Aranha replied, “We are our own client. This was purely an exercise in giving life to a concept that we believed in.”
