The Delhi High Court today passed a ruling in favour of Viacom18's Comedy Central channel and set aside the 10-day ban imposed by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting preventing the channel from broadcasting any programme. The order was passed by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Murugesan.

Sujeet Jain, the Group General Counsel of Viacom18, appeared in person in court.

No one from Comedy Central was available to speak on the decision of the High Court; however, it is expected that the channel would go on-air starting midnight today, according to industry sources.

Comedy Central had switched off its signals for 10 days starting 00:00 hours on Saturday, May 25, 2013 following an order passed by MIB on charges of airing “obscene” dialogues and “vulgar” words besides being derogatory to women. The shows in scrutiny were 'Stand Up Club' and 'Popcorn' aired on May 26 and July 4 last year. MIB had issued the ban order on May 17.
