publive-imageIn what could be seen as some degree of erosion of interest, TAM data for the second week of IPL, which was also the first full week, indicates that the ratings of the tournament has declined by over 10 per cent compared with last year's second week's ratings among the core TG of CS 15+ M ABC on all-India basis.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers, the 11 games played in the second week of IPL6 have fetched an average rating of 4.3 TVR against 4.8 TVR for 10 games played last year. The viewership in this TG has been on a constant decline from the second season of the tournament.

In the inaugural IPL, the 9 matches in second week had averaged 7.0 TVR which slipped to 6.4 TVR in the second season for the same number of games. It went slightly up in the third season courtesy the higher number of games in the second week where 11 matches averaged 6.5 TVR. The 12 games in IPL4 averaged 5.2 TVR while 10 games in IPL5 fetched 4.8 TVR.

The first 5 games of IPL6 had fetched 5.3 TVR against 5.1 TVR for the first 6 games of IPL5.

The viewership decline is minimal in 8 metros compared to last year till the second week. The average rating for 11 games in the second week this year in 8 metros for the same TG was recorded at 5.4 TVR against 5.7 TVR for 10 games played last year and 5.8 TVR for 12 games played in IPL 4.

At the same time, the viewership was up this year in 8 metros for the first 5 games compared to last year's first 6 games. The average rating for first 5 games this year in 8 metros was at 6.6 TVR against 6.1 TVR for first 6 games played last year.

However, the decline from first week to second week this year was above 18 per cent in both all-India and 8 metro markets this year. The first 5 matches had fetched 5.3 TVR this year against 4.3 TVR for 11 matches in the second week in all-India markets. In 8 metros, the average rating for 5 games was 6.6 TVR against 5.4 TVR for 11 games.

The reach of IPL has grown this year to 138.6 million for the first 16 games compared to the last edition's 123.9 million for 16 games. However, even the absolute reach has shown an increase, the percentage of reach compared with the universe has seen a decline.
