Even as IPL continues to affect Hindi general entertainment channels in its third week, its broadcasters Sony Max and Sony Six are also witnessing a downturn in ratings. While Max fetched 211 GRPs in the third week of IPL6, Six was at 57 GRPs. The combined data of both the channels (268 GRPs) is much less than 344 GRPs of Max in the third week of IPL last year.
Normally, if GECs were losing, IPL was the culprit but what if both are losing eyeballs? Experts blame it to Phase-II of digitisation that is incidentally happening along with IPL – their observation is that all major 1mn+ markets were down by 20-30 per cent either because TAM is not capturing data or people have not migrated to set-top box and so are not getting signals.
According to viewership data sourced from TAM subscribers for the CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus continues to lead the GECs with a big margin in Week 16 (April 14 - April 20) of TAM 2013. The next three channels– Zee TV, Colors and Sony – registered a slight growth in their GRPs but were separated by 2 points each.
Star Plus lost a further 19 points in Week 16 but continued to lead the pack with a big margin. The channel registered 233 GRPs this week (last week 252).
Zee TVÂ added a few points this week after losing 22 GRPs last week and recorded 169 GRPs (last week 163).
Colors returned to No. 3 position by adding 11 points in Week 16. The channel has fetched 167 GRPs (last week 156).
Sony Entertainment Television closely follows Colors at 165 GRPs (last week 160).
SAB TVÂ lost 14 points and recorded 123 GRPs (last week 137).
Life OK has recorded 103 GRPs this week (last week 111).
