The mission series on National Geographic Channel is back in its newest avatar and this time Nat Geo is combining two of its greatest assets – mission and photography – in one potent show, 'Mission Covershot'. Giving a flavour of the upcoming show, Nat Geo showcased the best pictures clicked by the contestants in an exhibition at Blue Frog in New Delhi.

The launch of the show and exhibition saw the attendance of leading filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor along with the stylish host of Mission Covershot, Shibani Dandekar, who shared their experiences from the show. The exhibition showcased the best work of the eight amateur photographers who are competing on the show for a coveted chance to contribute to the cover of Nat Geo Traveller Magazine. Slated to go on air on March 25, 2013, every Monday at 10 PM, the 10-part series promises a compelling combination of competition, photography and the quintessential Mission intensity.

“A reality series on photography contest will be a first on television,” said Debarpita Banerjee, Vice-President, Marketing & Communication, NGC Networks and Fox International Channels. “On one hand, photography now has become a popular passion and more people are clicking and creating stunning imagery. On the other hand, not just now, but for decades National Geographic has been synonymous with stunning imagery. National Geographic photographers are looked upon with great wonder and envy. It was obvious for us to bring the two together – a platform for budding photographers honed by some of the best in the Nat Geo family and the industry. And that's what makes Mission Covershot so special. It has a grandiose of Nat Geo photography coupled with eight hugely empathisable contestants trying to make the cut.”

“The show tells human stories comprising their competitive instinct, skill, art and a lot many other values in beautiful locales in Sri Lanka with skilled mentors and judges. To promote the show, we have brought online and ground photography exhibitions. We are promoting the show heavily on Outdoor besides our network channels,” added Banerjee.

Manas Mohan, Publishing Director of Nat Geo Traveller Magazine in India, said, “This is the real thing! We believe that Mission Covershot offers one of the ultimate prizes that a photographer can aspire for – the cover of a National Geographic Traveller issue. This is probably the first time in the world that the channel and the magazine have got together to create fantastic programming and fantastic stories for the followers of National Geographic. I look forward to a massive response from our supporters.”
