A state-wide drawing competition was organized by Vijayavani, Karnataka's newest entrant on the print scene. The competition received a whopping 8000 entries from every nook and cranny of the state, which is a landmark achievement, considering it is the only Kannada daily to organize an event for kids at such a grand scale.

Sponsored by well-known personal care and health beverage brands, the top 10 participants were invited to Bangalore for the final round with all expenses borne by Vijayavani. The wards were accompanied by either of their parents who enjoyed the generous hospitality extended by the Vijayavani team. The festooned office was a delight for every child with cartoon characters adorning the walls and roof and kiddies' treat for the children's palate. “Very well organized event” exclaims Ananth Hegde, a proud parent, “the atmosphere was like my own family function!” Another parent, Neetashree who was left astounded said, “Didn't know our daughter was so talented, Vijayavani has helped her come out of the shell.”

The initial rounds were judged by Rekha, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, BMS College Bangalore and Navya, Curator, Swasti Gallery, Bangalore where as the final round was judged by Anil Kumar, Lecturer, Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore accompanied with the popular Kannada singer- Archana Udupa as the guest of honour. The winner- Samhita Gurudatt of Shimoga received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- while the children ranked 2nd and 3rd received Rs. 7000/- and 5000/- respectively. The rest received consolation prizes worth Rs. 1000/- each. The response that Vijayavani received was noteworthy which is apparent from the fact that participants gathered at the event from the remotest of villages and towns scattered across the state.
