Last year Cannes Lions changed its description to ‘International Festival of Creativity’. Kinda ironic that the ‘newest’ major advertising/communication awards festival was the first one to recognise that advertising as we know it does not mean much to most people on this planet. Some might even argue that it never did.
So, on a more optimistic note, I’m off to Cannes representing Cheil India. It’s the first time in a while that I’ve great expectations from an awards show. All for a tiny reason: The Minus One campaign. Vishal, the young bloke who thought up the initiative for Samsung printers is with me. He’s as kicked as a Brazilian street footballer making his debut at Wembley Stadium! Feel good for him.
I, on the other hand, am really looking forward to my very first visit to France. And meeting a bunch of older guys who’ve hung around in this profession long enough to be termed legends.
Yeah, it’d good to meet these crazy ones – the real Mad Men. On the other hand, it would be swell to win.
