Media Pro launches anti-piracy drive in Gujarat

Files FIR against GTPL-affiliated operator for unauthorised analog signal transmission to Escotel managed 'The Fern'

publive-imageMedia Pro Enterprise India, a leading content aggregator, has filed an FIR against a GTPL-affiliated operator for providing unauthorised analog signal to 'The Fern' hotel in Ahmedabad. A raid was conducted recently on the 5-star Ecotel managed hotel wherein it was found that the GTPL-affiliated operator was providing unauthorised signals of Media Pro channels to the hotel.

Under the terms and conditions of the analog agreement signed between MSOs and Media Pro, the MSOs and their LCOs are not authorised to provide analog signals to commercial establishments unless the broadcaster provides them with the authorisation.

'The Fern' was sent two notices wherein they were informed that it was illegal to receive signals from the LCO as he was not authorised to do so. They were also provided with the contact of the sales executive to get the required licence for the same. The notices went unheeded.

A senior official of Media Pro stated, “The increase in piracy of TV signals in Gujarat has increased tremendously. By raising a flag against what GTPL is doing in Ahmedabad, we intend to highlight the extent of signal piracy in Gujarat. We wish to stop this malpractice in the entire country starting with Gujarat. As a company we remain committed to doing our best to protect the interests of viewers.”

Media Pro also gave Upendra the power of attorney to carry out a piracy raid against the hotel. He and his team checked and found out that Vinod Bhai, an operator of GTPL, was providing the signal to the hotel. Signals to 'The Fern' have been shut down and the police are investigating the case.

Media Pro Enterprise India jointly aggregates and distributes channels licensed to Zee Turner and Star Den. As is known, Star Den is an existing 50:50 joint venture between Star India  and Den Networks, while Zee Turner is a 74:26 JV between Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) and Turner International India.
