publive-imageBBC has announced the appointment of two new business journalists to be based in the BBC's Mumbai bureau.

Yogita Limaye will join the BBC in May 2012 as Mumbai Business Correspondent. She will report across BBC World News and will serve as the presenter of India Business Report, the channel's weekly television programme on business throughout the region. In addition, Yogita will report for bbc.com/news and on the BBC World Service in both English and Hindi.

Yogita has worked for CNN IBN since 2006, most recently serving as an anchor and principal correspondent. She has reported on several important news events including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, cotton farmer suicides and the Anna Hazare movement.  She is an engineering graduate from the University of Pune and received her post graduate diploma in broadcast journalism from the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai.

Yogita said, "I look forward to this new challenge. Working at the BBC will give me a great opportunity to leverage my local knowledge and network on a global platform. A growing economy, India is buzzing with stories and I hope to bring many of these to the viewers of the BBC across the world ".

Sameer Hashmi will join the BBC in June as Mumbai Business Reporter. He joins BBC World News' India Business Report team, which is based in Mumbai and Delhi and will also report on all aspects of business across BBC World News television, bbc.com/news and the BBC World Service radio. Sameer has worked with The Times Group since 2008, most recently serving as a business correspondent for the group's business channel ET Now, and previously for The Economic Times. He has reported on business across the aviation, infrastructure, power and hospitality sectors.

Sameer said, “It gives me immense pleasure in joining the BBC World News team and it will be a great experience for me to work with such a world-renowned news organization. The Indian economy is the second fastest growing economy in the world.  Reporting and analysing Indian financial news for the global audience in the current financial environment will be an interesting and challenging task and I am really looking forward to it.”

The India Business Report team not only produces a weekly programme for BBC World News but are also contributes to other BBC News business coverage through specialist programmes such as Asia Business Report and World Business Report and the daily News output across radio, television and online.
